A new way to waste time

This is my new spinning wheel. I was at a NSW Knitter's Guild meeting in December last year and happened to mention that I would like to learn to spin. Beverly happened to have no interest in spinning, but owned a wheel and voila, my Christmas wish was answered!

She is an Ashford Traditional
This one belonged to Beverley's friend's Mother at one point so is about 50 years old at a guess.

It is in VERY good condition given she has been hiding in the shed gathering dust and fly specks for awhile.  I do need a few more bobbins to get me started but I will have that sorted in a jiffy!

I gave her a quick polish ready for my first lesson yesterday at a friends house. Annette said I was going better than expected for a beginner so I am feeling a little bit happy today!

I am already wondering if Possum would like a pet angora rabbit for her next birthday, or maybe Easter, which comes first.

  1. That's very cool! A spinning wheel came to live at my house at Christmas time - couriered from Armidale by my parents. Consequently learning to spin is on my list of things to do this year!

  2. I love it! When I will have a bigger house, I should defenetly get one! I should probable start kneeting first:)

  3. That is awesome! But rabbits? nah - get her one of them llama lookalikes (sorry for the life of me - I can't remember what they are called) Tess used to have some on McLouds Daughters :)

  4. Thanks Car ~ You mean an Alpaca, and it is on the wish list when I have a block of land :)

  5. Bobbins - see - that is something that I should get my grandfather onto:) Will plant the seed:) Wonder if you cold get hold of another that could be sent to him to copy - the man can do anything if he has something to copy:)

I am eyeing of a spindle at the moment:) Happy points will be going to that in the next fw weeks I think:)

  6. Oh, some meetings & chances & comments are just meant to be!! What a find, love Posie

  7. Wow, Wow, Wow!!! That's the same as my spinning wheel... I scored mine at a clearing sale a couple of years ago for $1, I know I still can't believe it... I really want to learn how to use it properly as I've only just touched on the surface of how it works... Can't wait to hear all about your leasons and see your progress as your spinning skills mature...

    Jodie :)
