Rainy Day Activities for Mum

With all the rain we have had it has been perfect sit inside and knit kind of weather.

I made the flour sack hat for my nephews birthday, but I think I will have to keep this one, it is too cute, and perhaps too small so I will cast on another one slightly larger.  This knit up in a day so I should have time to get another one made and in the post...

I also made this Eden's Adam vest for Possum.
I used my handspun which was a wonderful feeling :)  This is a super quick and easy knit by Aussie designer Georgie Hallam aka Tikki.  This is the second time I have knit this pattern and I really like it.  I will be knitting this again, and again!

I hope you have found a fun way to pass your time during this welcome rain we have been getting :)

The New Wheel

A New Wheel for me!

Another Ashford, but an Ashford Traveller this time.
I love that all the bobbins are compatable with my Traditional Ashford Wheel.

The timber is lovely and this wheel is in wonderful condition.  I already love it.
This will be perfect to take along to Spinning Camp with the girls, I can't wait!

My Creative Space

I have not been sewing much of late, but every now and then I like to pretend I still do enough to consider myself a seamstress of sorts.  I made this skirt for Possum out of a pair of my pants that let go in the fastener area (and let us PLEASE not talk about the implications of that).

I cut the pants off below the knee, joined the sides, admired the already in place hem and added an elastic waist.  Quick and easy and made me feel better about admitting defeat with my waist line (still not talking about it please).

I later added a couple of yo yo flowers to the hem which Possum likes, but I am not too sure.  I guess I will leave them...

My (Tardy) Creative Space

I can't believe it is Friday morning.  One day I am whinging about it being only Tuesday, then I wake up and the week is gone.  How did that happen?

I missed My Creative Space yesterday but will toss this in as a late entry :)

I spent a day cutting up fabric and tossing it in piles and yesterday I carted all the envelopes off to the Post Office.  June is my month for Around the Block's Quilting Bee.  There are some VERY clever ladies going to be working on this fabric!!  I hope I have included enough fabric, enough variety and that my request for Wonky Log Cabin style or Wonky Square in Square style blocks goes down well with others...

I am nervous excited about it and can't wait to see what starts popping up in the Flickr Pool :)

While I am chatting about the quilting bee, I should show off these two blocks that I made for Rita at Red Pepper Quilts.  Rita asked for half square triangle blocks in a variety of sizes.  I think these will fit in nicely (I hope...!).

A lot of colour.

In order to pretend that I 'needed' the spinning supplies that I ordered I thought I should spin something.  I had some roving sitting in the cupboard so I spent the weekend enjoying the sunshine and happy children and I set to work.

The results are 150g and about 328 meters of colour.

I wonder what I should pattern I should knit with it?   Nothing for awhile I bet, the Mr asked me to knit him a jumper and I have only done 20cm of the back, it is going to be a slow project...

Finger Puppet FUN!

Hope your weekend is full of Finger Puppet fun!

I bought 10 of these various little guys at the Wool Expo with the proceeds from my Tea Cosy
They are just too cute I think, and much too fiddly for me to knit given the teeny tiny size of them.

The others were camera shy...

My Creative Space ~ Kids Craft

We took advantage of a warm spot of Autumn weather to duck outside and make Goop, or 'Gooey Gooey Stuff' as the small girl excitedly called it.  The idea came from a copy of Australian Women's Weekly kid craft book I found in an op-shop and we will be doing this again when it is warm enough.

It was very messy but easy to clean up outside.  The girl had to pour it on her legs and feet, and then in her hair all the while excitedly chattering about what she was doing.  There are some other great ideas in that book which I will be sure to try out too.

It got much messier than these photos suggest but I got my camera out of the danger zone before the fun really started.

GOOP
2 packs cornflour
2 cups water
food colouring
Large container
Outside craft for old clothes.  Goop hoses down for easy cleanup.

Sewing

I have not had my sewing machine out for an age so I took advantage of the fact that I was spending a quiet Mother's Day at home to dust off the machine.  I desperately needed to catch up with my Around the Block quilting bee blocks for April so that is what I worked on.

Rachel from the Four Wise Monkeys blog is making quilts for her boys.  I loved the fabric she sent out and it was fun to play with in trying to come up with a couple of blocks withiing the style she requested.

Then I worked on a couple of blocks for Susie at Yarnplanner.  More great fabrics to play with!  I love the fabric Susie had printed with her son's name it, pity my month is next, I don't have time to borrow that idea...

Having finished April's blocks (finally) I am back up to date.  Pity May is nearly half gone so I had best get moving on Rita's blocks and then cutting up and packaging my fabric because my turn is next!  I am both nervous and excited about this!!

Field Days

I went to the local Wool Expo yesterday.  I was on duty for the NSW Knitter's Guild New England group to help promote knitting and wool craft.

I had fun chatting to other knitters and catching up with friends.  We were there for display purposes and not selling things, but I did sell my tea cosy when someone admired it.  I can always knit another :)

I will show you what I bought with the proceeds in a future post, I don't have a photo as yet and Possum has run of with them.

There was a petting zoo for the children which the small girl liked a lot.  I was very embarrassed when she exclaimed loudly 'Look Horses!' as we walked past some cattle...  I know she knows the difference!

Taking in the local sights and exhibitors was fun too :)
Hope you are having a great weekend!

My Creative Space ~ Shopping

My Creative Space looks like a bomb hit it.  I can't find half the things I need and as a result my creativity is....missing...

But it is ok, I have plans to clean up (one of these days) and until then I have cool things found and purchased to show off.

I was in the right place at the right time when a man carried this suitcase into the op-shop and dropped it off right in front of me.  $4 later I had walked out with it happy dancing all the way to the car :)

At a local Church fair last weekend I picked up this phone for $2.  Possum has had a lot of fun playing with it and we have had fun listening to her one sided conversations.

'Ring Ring, hello, are there any boys there?'

Chasing boys already it would seem!

At the same Church fair I found this Memory game complete with ALL the memory cards.  Another $2 bargain which I have put away until the children here are a tad older.

Right, I am off to clean up...

Perfect Weekend Weather

With the Autumn weather perfect over the weekend we spent a lot of time outside in the garden.

We had a few visitors too.

The new raised Veggie garden is in place and I planted all the strawberry plants and runners in.  The garden bed edging is right along the back fence now too which does make it neater and easier to mow and look after.

I think Autumn is my favourite time of year.
