At My House

At My House we are feeling healthy again after a bout with a bug.  We have been sick with frequency of late.  Every bug that goes around ends up here with thanks to the small people in the house.

We sold a few excess rams, but still have a couple to go as soon as they are ready.  The clean up continues of stock and stuff that was left here when we moved in.

We have been slashing thistles and mowing too.

I have been getting excited about Sew It Together next year, but the Mr thinks it is funny to blog about 'I will be here on such and such a day' events as opposed to events in the past so if you are wondering, I am not going, and if I was I would be hitch hiking from Alice Springs or catching a bus from Hamilton or something other than what I am actually doing.  Confused?  Me too...

We have also been having pony rides.  This is Lily.
Lily is a wonderful and quiet pony and we love her just a little bit, especially Possum.

In Short.

Six pairs of Make it Perfect Little Explorer Shorts off the machine this week.  All made from gifted/op-shopped/Remnant bits of material and all great shorts for the summer play months ahead.
I modified the pattern by extending the length to leave out the contrast fabric band, and leaving off the pocket. I decided yard clothes didn't need the extra touches.

We also posted off our crafty packages for the Kids Christmas Swap :)

In short, we have been busy.

Handsome

The handsome one of the house.
He is our quiet achiever, mostly happy and easy going.

Blue loves being outside and has discovered he can climb out over the gate in the front yard.
I will be out there today twitching some chicken netting on the inside to stop him getting a toe hold.  He wont like this and may chuck a rare and short lived tantrum, just once, to let me know he is unhappy, then he will move on and forget about it, he is that kind of boy.

I love his blonde curls at the back of his neck.  He has avoided a haircut so far because of those curls and I get a little surprise when I wash his hair and discover it is on his shoulders.

He is wonderful.

Beautiful

Beautiful is this girl of mine.
Full of mischief and fun and more than a little bit stubborn too.
At almost 3, she is growing up fast and is often found with hands on hips and stomping foot as she tells me what she thinks.

This cardigan has been blogged here and full details of the knit are in my Ravelry Projects  :)

At my House

At My House we are starting to enjoy our hard work in the garden.  Beans mingle on fences behind roses and bulbs in garden beds that didn't exist when me moved in.  Grass is starting to become lawn, but it does need spraying again now to keep on top of the weeds.

BBQ season has arrived with the warmer weather and longer days and it is lovely to spend some quiet time outside of an evening before turning in for the day.

We have been busy, but you can see the difference we have made and we are having fun turning this space of ours into our home.

My Creative Space

I am playing along with My Creative Space again this week because I have been spending a bit of time back at the machine of late and I do enjoy it.

Some drawstring bags made from op-shopped tea towels.  No need to think about things because Cam has done all the thinking for you and provided a great tutorial too.

Great shoe bags, and handy project bags.  I had my knitting in one to take in the car on our recent beach trip, which was lucky really as this bag also makes a handy pouch for when you pick up a little friend.

This small one's mother had been hit by a car so we stopped and picked him up.  He spent his trip with us snug in his bag until we got him to the Vet in the next town.

So there you have it.
Make some of Cam's bags because you never know when you might need one, or why.

I can't...

...get a good photo of my two children together.

I will keep trying, one day it will happen (touch wood).

Tara, if you read this, can you book us in please?  I think you are my best chance at a nice photo with both children smiling and looking at the camera!

Beach Break

We managed to escape on a mini holiday when the Mr's work took him close to the coast.  We beat the summer holiday rush with it's peak rates and had a great time.  We stayed at Arakoon State Recreation Park right next door to South West Rocks.  Our tent site cost us $27 per night (off peak rate) and we were nestled in below Trial Bay Gaol, which was a fantastic wind break.  We were also less than 100 metres from the beach.

The kids loved the beach and had a great time playing in the sand, building, and squashing sand castles and drawing pictures.  The water was a hit too once they had built up enough confidence to tackle it.

We took in some of the local sights, managed to pick up some goodies at the markets and ate fish and chips for lunch.  We ate BBQ tea that we cooked on the beach and sat and ate overlooking the bay.

The Mr managed a Bear Grylls moment of glory when he used his flint to light the fire to cook our tea.  I am not sure which one of us had the bigger grin, in my defence, I was hungry...

It is a great spot for a family holiday, and we will be going back.

A Refashion

My jeans gave out on me (drat) so I decided to turn them into another demin skirt for Possum.

I love quick, no pattern needed sewing.  I also love that this was essentially a free skirt.
I added some ribbon detail and love the fact that it is already hemmed for me.

These photos show the skirt after Possum had worn it all day.  Excuse the wrinkles :)
She loved it, which makes it very satisfying, especially if I am not looking too closely into why the zip gave out in my pants in the first place...

Seeing Red

I love this, my latest finished knit.  It is the In Threes baby cardigan and it is a wonderful pattern.
Possum loves it too.  I have trouble getting a photo of her wearing new clothes these days because now she wants to jump, run, dance or twirl when she wears something new.  I will try again when she has worn it awhile to see if the novelty has worn off and if she can stand still for 10 seconds.

I love wool from Bendigo Woollen Mills
How wonderful to have a great local product to use in a variety of colours and plys.

I also love these cute novelty buttons that I got from Jo. This set was called farmyard frenzy and I now only have two left...

There is a sweater version of this pattern that I am going to knit for Blue.  I am also in the middle of two mystery knit-a-longs and offered to test knit a new pattern as well.

My Creative Space

My Creative Space this week is a bit of a mix of things done, things started, and things to do.

I am making quilt blocks for a swap that started on Ravelry.  I also need to make a block (or two) for the Around the Block 2 bee too.  Nothing like being busy!

I am posting off a little something for the Mirabel Softie drive too.

I also need to make the children some summer clothes.  Shorts and light dresses are needed and this fabric I found in the op-shop this week will be a good start.  It reminds me of little dresses my Nanna made me and I can't wait to see Possum in it :)

I am also knitting as much as I can.  But will show details of that later.
I hope your creative space is full of fun.

At My House

I am a day late At My House because yesterday we all went for a drive.  I thought it would be fun to tag along with the Mr when he said he had to do a quick job.  I pictured a nice drive, getting dropped in the nice, small, country town near his destination and being picked up a few hours later.  Op-shops, the library and a picnic in the park all sounded like fun.

It would seem small towns on a Monday are not a good idea.  Both the library and the op-shop were shut all day which left us with the park.  Four hours of the park in fact.  The kids didn't seem to mind but it was not all I had pictured for the day.

I tried to fill in some time by trying to get a photo with both children together.  Why can't they both look happy at the same time just for the brief moment when I push the button?
