Busy Beavers

I no sooner get out of hospital ready for a relaxing weekend when Miss Possum wakes up sick, very sick... Poor little one needed lots of cuddles and couldn't sleep lying down which did not allow for a restful couple of days.

While sitting up on a late shift at 1am on Sunday morning waiting for Possum's fever to break I decided that some quick and simple sewing project was in order.

I chose a Tag Monster as something different because I had everything I needed in my stash of goodies. I was a bit lazy with the hand stitching sections and played with some decorative machine options instead but I think it all worked well enough.

A friend sent me a package for the new bub and there were some great bibs in there from 'Cotton on kids'. I decided that I could make my own so I now have a production line of 18 bibs on the go. It is a great way to use up two old bath sheets for the terry backing and some remnants and off cuts that I already had for the fronts. I am using the decorative band from the towel ends as the button bands.

While we were house bound and sewing Sam was outside keeping an eye on things for us... Our chooks are doing very well and laying three eggs a day which is more than we need so have been cooking a lot of late. No need to panic, Sam may look hungry but the chooks are very good at chasing her away when they are sick of her.

I am posting my apologies here, I have not been as good as I would like about replying to comments, and visiting Blogs with everything else that has been going on, but I am trying, and I will get there again soon :)

38 Weeks!!!

I have just spent a boring two days in hospital while they ran tests on the Sea Monkey and myself. All is well, just uncomfortable which can't be helped.

While sitting in bed waiting for doctors etc I was worried that if I went in to labor at that moment I would not have a 'bump' photo at the end stages for the album. As soon as I got home this morning I put DH on the other end of my camera...

My weight is now 65.25kg so I have put on just under 10kg. Most of that is the baby :)
I am 41 inches around my tummy and unfortunately my bra size has not increased at all LOL.

Not long to go now, and I have my 'bump' photos taken so I am organised!!

Exciting Stuff!

Awhile ago you may remember the hype surrounding the launch of Sewn. They had great blogs offering giveaways as part of the promotion. I was lucky enough to win one of those giveaways offered by Jess at The Crafty Librarian.

Jess was sick with the flu so by the time she made all of the above goodies, and posted it all, I have not long since received it. BOY was it all well worth the wait!!! There are pincushions, an embroidery kit, a fab tote (which I already love), a vintage knitting pattern booklet, brads, embellishments, ribbon, vintage fabric and a covered pencil box!
How lucky am I?!!!

Even longer ago, I participated in Chaletgirls Vintage Sheet swap. I thought I would include an 'in progress' photo of the quilt top I am making for Possums big bed now that she is in it!
It is a simple coin style quilt, but I love how great these vintage sheets look all together like this!

Special thanks needs to go to Dear Husband, who helped me with a lot of the cutting and sorting of these fabrics. Who knew that I would have trouble doing this myself at 36+ weeks pregnant!!
He was even nice enough to say after seeing the quilt top at this stage, that it was nicer than he thought it would be :)

A Busy Day

I have been a bit behind in my sewing over the last few weeks, I am not even sure why because I have had time, and material, and set projects I should have been working on...
I made up for it today and got a lot done!

First was all the 9 patch blocks for Mai lout Number 5 of Sheridan's block swap.

Lara's fabrics almost had me in a panic, I had no idea what I was going to put with them... Bright seemed to be the order of the day, I hope they are ok.

It is hard to see in the below photo, but the red is actually a red polka dot, which belongs to Lisa. I went with a green print, and a grey print from my stash for these two.

This pink belongs to Helen. I matched it with a lime green dot and a purple/grey fabric.

Then there was the Round Robin Block Swap.

My first mail out was some beautiful fabric belonging to Anna. This is just a sneak peak as I am not allowed to show what my completed block is.

As is was a rainy day today, Miss Possum was also well entertained thanks to Nikki at My Black Cardigan and her fantastic kids book idea. Many thanks for the email Nikki, as you can see it is already in very good use :)

I decided that instead of printing the animals onto coloured paper I would let Miss Possum colour them in before cutting them out to assemble her book. This went down very well even if Miss Apples nearly got in the way of the crayons and had to be removed to a safe distance...

And this is my 100th post!! I was trying to think of a giveaway option but have decided with baby #2 imminent it is all a bit much so will just do something extra special next milestone, maybe my 1 year blogversary or some such :)

Kids Craft and Giveaway

Nikki over at My Black Cardigan has a great kids craft idea. She has made her own childrens books which can be made with any theme in mind suitable for all different ages.
They look great and I cant wait to put one together for Miss Possum :)

Leah is having a giveaway on her blog, it is a very cute Guinea Pig softie.

Quite funny really as Miss Possum met her first Guinea Pigs today at our local Marsuipial Park and LOVED them so I would love her to win one!

Old Favourites and New Friends

With one month to go I decided it was time to pull out all the baby clothes and the Lux flakes and take stock.

So many memories in some garments, and the promise of memories in others. It is about the only time I will be emotional (in a good way) about doing the washing!

It is hard to believe that Miss Possum was small enough to wear some of these small treasures, as she now runs across the lawn kicking her ball. Also hard to believe that one small baby needs so many clothes, but I know they do!

I have reverted back to sleepy pregnant state and have not been all that 'crafty' as a result. I am doing my best to stockpile sleep but as my 100th post is only about 2 posts off I am determined to motivate myself to wake up and get some machine time in. I may even organise a giveaway if I can just think of something worth offering up...

But for now, I am off to bed as Possum just fell asleep and the house is quiet and still and I am feeling a little snoozy...

New Stuff

Last night Miss Possum spent her first night sleeping in a 'big' bed. This makes way for the new baby to move into the smaller room with the cot shortly.

Her first night went well as I only had to put her back into bed once before she fell asleep as usual. Her lunch time sleep today was a little harder because Possum just wanted to play rather than sleep, but she eventually got there.

I snuck in today after Miss fell asleep to snap a photo :) Have you ever seen so many different pink stripe articles in the one photo?! Her shirt under the jumper is different again, but if I sleep in and Dad dresses the child I cannot argue (or leave the house...).

I now need to urgently make her a quilt for her bed, which has been on my 'to do' list for ages. I think I will use my Vintage Sheet FQ and make a simple coin quilt as a short term solution.

The other change in our house today is the addition of THREE Isa Browns!! All are settling in well and are nice and quiet and not worried by small children and kelpies who keep peering in their chook run to check things out.

They are 'point of lay' so it won't be long before we are reaping the rewards of chook ownership in the kitchen!

My brother has named one 'Chicken Chook' after a childhood pet chook he had many moons ago. I think I like the name Mabel for one but am waiting until I can tell them apart before putting too much thought into it :)

We have a new word...

Miss Possum is now 18.5 months old and is adding to her vocabulary every day.

Poo now joins a list including:
Dad
Mum
Ta
Ouch
No
Yes
Her name
Up
Ear
Eye
Woof Woof
Eeeooooooowww (cats don't meow here thanks to Scarface Claw)
Cheese
Ball
Teddy

Possum also does a very good imitation of an aerosol can thanks to a recent camping trip and the mosquitoes.

She understands a lot more than she can say. If we say 'bath time' she will run up the hall and knock on the bathroom door. The word 'bed' can bring on tears or vigorous head shaking.
'Outside' is a good word. 'Kiss' 'cuddle' and 'high five' get mixed results depending on her mood.

Reading is the preferred activity with 'Where is Green Sheep' the current favourite book. 'The very hungry Caterpillar' was the favourite for a long time but does not cause the same level of excitement as it used to, except in Mum ;)

Crochet Capers!

Not one of my proudest moments, but I had my first attempt at crochet the other day, as evidenced by the blue blob on the upper left of the photo below... It was at this point that I developed a headache and left the knitting meeting in shame ;)

My second attempt went a little better, even if still not very good. That is the green concoction in the photo... I was just making a daisy chain and working my way around.

It is hard to work out how to hold the yarn, my tension was awful! I will keep trying as one day I would like to churn out a few Granny Squares as seen everywhere at the moment in Blogs, magazines and books.

If at first you don't succeed...
Lucky my knitting is slightly better :)
